Product Review (submitted on September 3, 2018):
In all honesty, as a 28-year-old female, I had to read this book twice to really enjoy it as much as it deserves. The first time I read it was part of a book club and I had a hard time getting into it because it just felt a little too young for me. The second time I read it was right before I went to see the movie because I wanted the book to be fresh in my mind, and I enjoyed it immensely more than the first time through.
Beyond the exciting story line, this is a book about acceptance and being comfortable in your own skin. At the core of the book, it is meant to instill good values and morals on the reader. It touches on things like aspergers/autism, race, sexual orientation, and even cosmetic imperfections (while at the same time gently cautioning that people you meet online are not always as they seem). The book teaches the reader that no matter who you are on the outside, it's who you are as a person that really matters. When I have children of my own, I would love for them to read this book (once they are old enough to handle the colorful language sprinkled throughout, of course). This is one of the most well-written young adult novels I have ever read. Having grown up with Harry Potter, I would say it's a tie for which story I enjoyed more. If I could give this book ten stars, I would. I will be looking forward to reading more by Ernest Cline in the future.
