I am not a real political man. (I will say that I have voted for both republican and democratic presidential contenders for personal reasons that I am not going to share here..) This was a great book and President Duncan is someone who is a hero and something we should hope all of our elected leaders aspire to have those attributes. I will say though as one of 45 men to have sat behind that desk, President Clinton along with his co-author James Patterson told one hell of a story!
Former President Clinton's contribution made the story feel like it was an authentic version of true presidential dialogue, leadership, and guts. So many issues of the modern era (2018) were addressed that made you wish HE (President Duncan) was the hero-of-the-day for all world issues...what would that be like. The plot is well developed and details addressed flawlessly. My first real book read in the last 4 years. What a great one to pull me out of the proverbial "rabbit hole" of a single genre for a day or two. Thank you both for a great novel!
In this book, the cyber terror attack is so real, believable, and relevant to want could actually happen when a President and the Administration do not take any internet attack seriously by protecting our country.
Like many people I'm sure, I've been waiting for this book to be released. As a politician Clinton has always been know for his speaking abilities and his skillful way of negotiating with other countries (re: twice negotiated with N Korea). I'm not sure who did the majority of the writing but this book did not reach my expectations.
I thought the writing got bogged down in it's descriptions of how the tech virus was introduced and how it all works. It got repetitive when explaining how not only computers won't work but also phones, refrigerators, home security and anything else that goes online. Then it's repeated with the addition of cash registers and looting etc. I had to turn the speed up to 1.5 because I started getting bored.
I know people are probably going to hate this review but honestly I think Jack Ryan (Clancy) would have been more decisive and would not have gone into hiding to waffle with a decision about how to deal with cyber terrorism.
I thought the cast of narrators did an excellent job.
