Timothy Zahn (Author), Marc Thompson (Narrator)

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling audiobook from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine.

On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor’s favor, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs - including the Death Star project - the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it’s not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there’s more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

But the Emperor knows it's not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there's more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic, and Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown...and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance - neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.

Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged - by a test of their allegiance to the Empire...and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

Great story and a must read for any star wars fan Review by Steve
Overall this is one of the best novels since the Disney era started. Just be careful not to raise expectations too high. While this is a great book I don't think it's as good as the EU Thrawn books or the first Disney Thrawn book. Vader and Thrawn both seemed a little under powered in this story. When judging the book I think it's important to compare it to all the star wars novels and not just the Thrawn novels. The Thrawn novels so far are some of the best books ever written so if you go into it expecting it to be as good or better you may be disappointed, but if you expect a solid exciting star wars read you'll be happy with this one.

Keanu, is that you? Review by Pete
Enjoyed this almost as must as the first Thrawn book. There was only one thing that bothered me and that was the voice the narrator used for Anakin. He sounds like Keanu Reeves.

Timothy Zahn is great Review by Christofer
He brings G.A. Thrawn to life so good. I wish he would keep writing. We need more Thrawn in our lives.

Entertaining and Enjoyable Review by D. Martin
I recognize that I'm easy to please, but I really enjoyed this book tremendously. I can't wait for the third one, and to see how Thrawn fits into the upcoming movies.

Good but not great Review by Grifterlaw
An adequate second book in the series. A mix of past and present but neither plot had much punch.

Awesome book, need more Thrawn novels. Review by Michael Satterfield
Loved it finished it in one setting. The Darth Vader could have been better but I understand its no easy task to copy James Earl Jones. Later in Rebels, Admiral Thrawn does finally learn the truth about Anakin.

He Knows Review by Richard D. McGehee
I loved it! Disney would be wise to hire Timothy Zahn when they decide to bring Thrawn to the big screen. Timothy is Thrawn and he knows. Job well done both to Timothy Zahn and the ever-talented Marc Thompson!

Amazing! Intoxicating, voicework is A+! Review by BestBookSales customer
excellent & memorable... multiple story arcs are masterfully woven together, into a grand novel resistant to the harshest of critics. The voices are incredible, Lord Vaders voice almost reaches out to force choke you into leaving a 5* review!

And last but not least... many SW fans will gleam a few insights into lore that is... often overlooked by many...

A very good book and continuation of Thrawn's legend/legacy Review by Khurram
A very good book and continuation of Thrawn's legend/legacy. If I am a little disappointed it is because as good as this book was, it is simply with Timothy Zahn writing Thrawn and Vader I did not want good I was expecting great. However Very good is very good.

This book is set in two time periods. Going back to the line in the first book where a meeting between, then General Anakin Skywalker and Thrawn, during the Clone Wars was mentioned. The majority of this book takes place in that era, as well as the current problem. One thing I like very much in this book is Zahn's writing the differences between Anakin and Vader, and how Vader refers to the memories of Anakin as "the Jedi's". Zahn also did a great job of showing the precognition powers the Force sensitive use. As the story progresses I saw the reason for this.

The second era that this book is set in is right after Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels, right after Thrawn's biggest defeat to date. So his standing and loyalty is in question. There is a lot of verbal sparing and jockeying for the number 2 position in the Empire between Thrawn and Vader. Usually with Thrawn coming out on top. However there is a great deal of respect between the two the telling point of that is Thrawn was still alive as Vader is not known for his patience.

There are elements taken from other Star Wars pre-Disney era books. One of the ideas come from the Golden Age of the Sith comic series where a couple of Force sensitives found another way to earn a living out of their talents, and a material that has not been used in the Disney era as of yet, as well some more of the behind the scenes of Order 66.

A very good book, that is slightly slow in places. I think this was the only stumbling block for me as with Vader in the book I was expecting a lot more action in the book. Though the lack of fights did show Vader's other skills that are sometimes forgotten because of his fearsome reputation and displays of power.
