Very helpful! Review by Charity B
I don’t normally enjoy these types of books because they end up being repetitive and too long. This is very different. It’s short enough to keep you actively listening and absorbing the information, but long enough to include helpful tips, interesting stories and science to back up his theories. I have already recommended this book to numerous people and plan on getting a hard copy to make notes in.

Shorter version of The Power of Habit Review by BestBookSales Customer
I was a huge fan of 'The Power of Habit' by Duhigg. I saw Atomic Habits get a lot of momentum and I thought I would check it out to see if it had any new ideas. It really doesn't have anything new, but it is well written and presents the components of habit formation in a very practical and easy-to-implement way, and it's nice and short.

I still prefer The Power of Habit, but this is a worthy competitor.

Atomic Habits will change your life! 9 takeaways: Review by Mike
Atomic Habits by James Clear is one of those rare books that I immediately read twice in a row. It is filled with dozens of science-backed and actionable nuggets of wisdom. Do you want to improve any habits in your life? I heartily recommend Atomic Habits to you! We are all driven by our habits - many of which are unconscious. Below are 9 quotes and takeaways from this life-changing book:

1. "Getting 1 percent better every day counts for a lot in the long-run." Atomic Habits explains why the little things you do every day matters. Your little habits matter. It may not seem like a big deal to skip a workout or to be kind, but it is a big deal. Imagine if you improved your habits by only 1% every day. You'd be dramatically a different person in a year. Then imagine if you let your habits decline by 1% every day. You'd be in a much worse spot in life overall a year from now. Your little habits - atomic habits - count for a lot in the long run. What little habits are you improving upon (or neglecting...) today?

2. "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." This is such an important point in the book. Oftentimes we focus on goals in our life, while neglecting to focus on the systems that help us achieve goals. As an example, I had a friend who had the goal to complete a triathlon. He achieved this goal! And then he quit working out for the next year and got out of shape... He was so focused on achieving a goal that he neglected his underlying systems of being healthy. Goal achievement can actually set us back if we don't get set up sustainable systems. Get the systems right and then we'll indeed also achieve our goals. Systems > Goals.

3. "Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity." I love this quote from the book. Every action - every habit - you take casts a vote for the type of person you want to become. Do you want to be a more organized person? When you develop habits and systems that organize your life, you are casting votes for thinking of yourself as an organized person. You think to yourself, "hey, I'm an organized person." And then you reinforce that belief with your habits and actions - a virtuous cycle! The flip side of this can be true too. What if you often show up late to meetings? You're casting votes that may make you think "well, I'm just a person that is always late." An un-virtuous cycle. Be careful to make sure that your habits and ultimately your beliefs cast votes for the type of person you want to become and, indeed, who you truly are.

4. "How long does it actually take to form a new habit? You just need to get your reps in." Atomic Habits answers the question of "how much time does it take to form a new habit" with a better answer of : X number of actions. Meaning, you may need to simply complete a new habit 100 times for it to stick, which could be done in 3 days or 3 weeks or 3 months, depending on the new habit. It is better to think of forming new habits in terms of consistently taking action, versus trying to stick to a habit for just X number of days. Get your reps in.

5. "Reduce friction. Decrease the number of steps between you and your good habits." The inverse of this is also true - increase friction between you and your bad habits! I think about this a lot when it comes to eating healthy. I need to reduce friction by having healthy food in the house and healthy snacks at work. And I need to increase friction by not having candy in the house or in my office! Out of sight, out of mind. In sight, and I eat it. :) (which of course reminds me of the Dad joke I often tell my girls: "I'm on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it...)

6. "Use temptation bundling. Pair an action you want to do with an action you need to do." This is a powerful concept. I put this in practice by only "watching TV" when I'm on the treadmill. I am able to run at a 6 MPH pace and watch TV or videos on the iPad when I'm on a treadmill. So, I generally only watch sporting events or movies or 80s music videos on YouTube when I'm running on the treadmill. This approach actually allows me to run longer if I want to watch a full half of a game, for example. And 80s music videos will often give me the energy to run that extra mile. :) Think about a new habit you want to start and how you can bundle it with an action you're already taking. Stack them together - i.e. habit stacking.

7. "Use a habit tracker. Keep track of your habit streak and 'don't break the chain.'" Atomic Habits does a nice job of explaining the importance of tracking your habits for success. What gets measured gets managed. One of my favorite habit trackers is a FitBit/Apple Watch, which tracks steps, heart rate, sleep, weight and can even track food intake/calories, if you input this data. My behavior definitely changes thanks to these habit trackers. Atomic Habits gives you additional habit tracker resources.

8. "Never miss twice. When you forget to do a habit, make sure you get back on track immediately." We all will have days where we fall off the bandwagon and our habits go in reverse. Well, that's okay for one day. Don't let it happen twice. Get back on track as soon as possible. (And, yes, sometimes we miss a habit two days in row. Just don't let it become three days...)

9. Author James Clear gets to the point quickly in Atomic Habits and with actionable advice. James has been blogging about habits, health, happiness, creativity and productivity since 2012. Check out a sampling of his writing at his website. James is also fun to follow on Twitter. Atomic Habits has 20 relatively short chapters that open with compelling stories and end with helpful chapter summaries. If you listen to books on Audible, I highly recommend the audio book as James reads this book very passionately.

Life changing…if you let it. Review by Joshua
Sometimes you read a book and feel motivated and excited about what you just learned…then you forget the majority of it (except for the “good” parts) within a week or two. James Clear has made it obvious that habits are important. He’s also taken the idea of building simple habits one small step at a time and made that idea attractive. Those small atomic habits we form like reading a page a day can make it easy to understand the concepts of a book on a deeper level, and that is really what makes Atomic Habits so satisfying. Great read. This book can change the way you do life if you let it. Following the simple steps later out, I have already improved my life over the last 10 days! Can’t wait to see what comes next!

A Game-Changer for Transforming Your Life, One Atomic Habit at a Time! Review by Mitch
I have always been intrigued by the idea of personal growth and self-improvement, but I often found it challenging to make lasting changes in my habits. That's where "Atomic Habits" by James Clear comes in, and let me tell you, it's nothing short of a revelation.

This book takes a refreshingly practical approach to habit formation and breaking bad habits. James Clear introduces the concept of atomic habits, which are small, incremental changes that have a remarkable impact over time. By focusing on the tiny, seemingly insignificant actions that make up our daily routines, Clear demonstrates how these habits can compound and lead to remarkable transformations.

One of the things I appreciated most about this book is Clear's ability to blend scientific research with relatable anecdotes and practical advice. He doesn't just preach theory; he provides actionable steps and strategies that are easy to understand and implement in everyday life. The book is filled with compelling examples and case studies that illustrate the power of atomic habits and how they can shape our identity and determine our success.

Clear emphasizes the importance of creating an environment that supports our desired habits, and he offers valuable insights into how to design our surroundings to make good habits inevitable and bad habits nearly impossible. His strategies for habit stacking, habit tracking, and habit shaping are incredibly effective and have helped me establish positive routines and break free from detrimental behaviors.

Another aspect I loved about "Atomic Habits" is how the author tackles the inevitable setbacks and obstacles that come with habit change. Clear provides practical advice on how to overcome plateaus, stay motivated, and recover from slip-ups without falling back into old habits. He emphasizes the power of small wins and the compounding effect they have on our motivation and self-belief.

By the time I finished reading this book, I had a newfound appreciation for the potential of small, consistent actions to transform my life. "Atomic Habits" is not just a book; it's a roadmap for personal growth and a guide to building a life of intention and fulfillment. Whether you're looking to improve your health, relationships, career, or any other area of your life, this book is a must-read.

In conclusion, "Atomic Habits" is an absolute game-changer. It's a practical, engaging, and well-researched book that offers a clear blueprint for building good habits and breaking bad ones. James Clear's writing style is accessible and relatable, making it an enjoyable read from start to finish. If you're serious about transforming your life, I can't recommend this book highly enough. Get ready to unleash the power of atomic habits and watch your life take off!

Great for getting rid of bad habits and trying to form better good ones Review by P. Rime
Easy to read, the method is simplified and reiterated through out the book. There are drawings and charts to help clarify the way the brain works with our habits and how those habits develop and get embeded into who we are. It details what is necessary to truly change a habit and to start a new habit and details a method and system for creating new habits and minimizing or changing bad ones. Very clear. Brilliant. Highly recommend.

Clear + Practical SelfHelp Book For Those Wanting to Improve Productivity Review by Chancey
Atomic Habits, the brainchild of James Clear, is a powerful self-help book that promises to unlock your hidden potential and pave the way for transformative habits. If you're someone who, like me, could do with a few less "gym, fitness, weights, and sports" references, fear not – this book still has plenty of gems to offer.

James Clear's writing style is undeniably unique, sprinkled with a dash of humor and a sprinkle of humility, but perhaps a touch too many "humble" brags for my taste. However, I'll give credit where it's due: this candor and authenticity may very well be a reflection of the book's original target audience and the author's personality.

What sets Atomic Habits apart is the in-depth research that backs up every piece of advice. Clear has done his homework, and it shows. The book is a treasure trove of scientific evidence, making it hard to dismiss the ideas he presents. From understanding the habit loop to the power of tiny changes, every concept is backed by solid data, which makes the book both convincing and compelling.

The real strength of Atomic Habits lies in its clear directives. Unlike other self-help books that leave you scratching your head, this one provides actionable steps that are simple to understand and implement. Clear's practical approach ensures that you won't be left wondering how to put these ideas into practice.

What impressed me the most was the plethora of real-life examples scattered throughout the book. These stories of ordinary people achieving extraordinary results are inspiring and make the principles feel achievable. From the success of Olympic champions to the stories of regular folks, every anecdote brings the concepts to life.

While the fitness-heavy focus might not resonate with everyone, it's essential to acknowledge that it remains true to the author's vision and persona. For fitness enthusiasts, this book will be a home run.

In conclusion, Atomic Habits offers a refreshing take on cultivating life-changing habits. James Clear's wit and candor might not be for everyone, but the book's well-researched content, practical advice, and relatable examples make it a compelling read for anyone looking to improve themselves and their lives. Embrace your quirks, dive into the research, and get ready to unleash your atomic potential!

Get 1% Better Everyday Review by Phillip
“Get 1% better every day”.

I am slightly biased in writing this review because prior to reading the book I already possessed a near religious belief in habits and how they impact our lives. Having read previous habit books like Charles Duhigg Power of Habits and Marshall Goldsmith “triggers”, I felt I was at least relatively intermediate on my knowledge of the topic.

Why did I read the book then? Because learning (or reinforcing learning) about habits is one of the most powerful ways for you to improve in the game of life. Your habits shape your destiny is one of my core beliefs so I am always happy to try to get a new “edge” or ways to improve them. I also
expected to find new gems that would help reinforce the message of why habits are so powerful and I was not disappointed.

But enough of my own habits and life, the question is whether you should read this book? The resounding answer is YES.
Honestly, who doesn’t want to get better at something? Or who doesn't want to stop doing something?

James Clear is a fantastic writer who I have followed his informative articles on a variety of topics for nearly a year. A lot of what is in the book is material he has written about on his website as other reviewers have stated but he puts it together in a very neat format for the book so even his regular readers should get something out of this

Transforming Through Tiny Changes: A Deep Dive into 'Atomic Habits Review by bestbooksales customer
My journey with "Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones" has not just been enlightening, but it has been an absolute game-changer for my personal development. I began this exploration with a hint of skepticism and concluded with an undeniable realization of its potential. "Atomic Habits" is not just another self-help book; it's a guide, a mentor, and a blueprint that ignited my drive for growth in ways I never foresaw.

While it's nearly impeccable in its approach, there are a few nuances that could resonate differently with readers. Eager to provide an objective viewpoint, I'll dive into my thorough experience with this book, offering an insider's perspective on its profound layers. This review is packed with my praises, yet it also touches on areas where the content could be slightly refined for broader appeal.

????️???? **Detailed Strategy Over Mere Concepts**: A refreshing twist in self-help literature: At first read, it's evident that "Atomic Habits" isn’t just about abstract concepts. Instead, it offers actionable strategies, a pivot from the norm that significantly influenced my approach to habit formation. Its emphasis on the power of compound growth resonates deeply, bridging the gap between mere knowledge and its practical application.

???????? **Micro Changes, Macro Impacts**: Illuminating the potential of the minuscule: One of the standout features of the book is its emphasis on small changes leading to profound impacts over time. This concept is relatable, especially for those who've faced the daunting task of overhauling their lifestyles overnight. It’s these minor tweaks, consistently applied, that can shape destiny, a theme consistently echoed throughout the book.

???????? **Science Meets Anecdote**: A Blend of Research and Real-Life Stories: James Clear masterfully intertwines scientific research with personal anecdotes, painting a comprehensive picture of habit formation. This duality provides both a theoretical foundation and relatable stories, enhancing the book's credibility and readability.

????️????️ **Crisp Presentation Coupled with Engaging Narration**: A Treat for Avid Readers: The coherent structure and lucid style of "Atomic Habits" are commendable. But the true gem is its captivating narrative, which ensures readers are glued from start to finish. It feels less like a study of habits and more like an enlightening conversation with a trusted friend.

????⏱️ **Sustained Motivation as the Central Theme**: The Powerhouse of Habitual Evolution: The recurring theme of maintaining motivation is a testament to the book's holistic approach. By focusing on systems over goals, it provides readers with a blueprint for long-term success, making transient motivation bursts a thing of the past.

However, in the spirit of a well-rounded review, I'd like to touch upon a minor observation:

⚖️???? **Overemphasis on Certain Concepts**: Repetition for Reinforcement, or Redundancy?: While the recurring themes reinforce the book's core concepts, there are instances where certain ideas felt slightly overemphasized. While some readers might find this repetition helpful, others might see it as a tad redundant.

Considering everything, "Atomic Habits" overwhelmingly earns its 5-star rating ????????????????????. Any minor repetitiveness pales in comparison to the goldmine of insights this book offers. The meticulous research, relatable anecdotes, and actionable strategies make it a must-read.

To all individuals eager for personal growth and those on the fence about diving into the realm of habits, I wholeheartedly endorse "Atomic Habits". It promises transformative insights and practical tools to craft a better version of oneself. After all, don't we all seek a life of improvement, one habit at a time?

I extend my deepest thanks to you for investing your time in this comprehensive review. I trust it aids in your decision-making journey, drawing you a step closer to finding your perfect self-improvement guide. To a future enriched with continuous growth, one habit at a time. Dive in, evolve, and thrive! ????????????

One thing I loved about "Atomic Habits" is its relatability. the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits. Review by Kay
[Introduction] James starts by sharing personal strategies he implemented to recover from a serious accident in high school. That event forced him to improve the quality of his routine to get his life in order, coming to the conclusion that “we all deal with setbacks, but in the long run, the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits. With the same habits, you will end up with the same results. But with better habits, anything is possible.”

How to Harness Habits to Serve You Review by John
For centuries people have understood the power of habits. Around 2,000 years ago, the Roman poet Ovid wrote, “Nothing is stronger than habit.” The 18th century English writer Samuel Johnson wrote, “The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.”

For some time now, we’ve even known how to break habits. Erasmus, a 16th century Dutch philosopher, wrote, “A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit.”

Stanford Professor B.J. Fogg has made quite a name for himself with his research and teaching of Tiny Habits.
If you have done any reading/studying around habits and changing human behavior, you might wonder if there is anything new or exciting in Atomic Habits written by James Clear.

The short answer is yes. This is a well written, well thought out approach to changing habits.

Mr. Clear starts by showing why changing behavior is so difficult. Most people approach behavior change from a wanting something different standpoint. A few improve their odds by approaching behavior change from a process standpoint. As Mr. Clear points out, unless you approach behavior change from aligning your long-term behavior with your core beliefs, you have little chance of succeeding. Instead of focusing on the have or doing, you must first focus on who you wish to be. There is a short hand for this – Be – Do and then Have.

Mr. Clear then guides the reader on a four-step process showing how any behavior is created and developed into a habit. He calls this Cue – Craving – Response (action) – Reward.

To create a new habit, you need to 1) Make if obvious 2) Make it attractive 3) Make it easy and 4) Make it satisfying. To break a habit, simply do the reverse 1) Make it invisible, 2) Make it unattractive 3) Make it difficult and 4) Make it unsatisfying.

The book is thoroughly engaging. Mr. Clear is an accomplished writer. His writing style is very conversational. He illustrates the concepts with engaging, real stories.

You will be a slave to your habits. You also have the power to choose the ones you want in your life – they can serve you or rule you. This book gives you all the tools and information you need to dramatically change your life by changing your habits.

Adrenaline Junkie HYPES Habits. (What?! Read on, friend...) Review by Cady
Disclaimer: I scored the jackpot and got my grubby paws on this early.

I didn't see myself getting especially excited about this book. I was like, "OK James. I like you. You seem like a nice guy. Your work is very link-able and that's made my life simpler on many an occasion. I TOTALLY FEEL SPECIAL because you have involved me (*marginally) in your ~process~. But habits? *yawn* What-evvvvver. Btw, I already know LIKE EV-UH-RYTHING because I read Charles Duhigg's book and was early on the Fogg method game. Ergo: I am The Expert. Bow down b*tches." <--Ok just kidding on that last line. But BA-sicallyy.

My inner world is................. a special place.

I didn't think I was going to get hype about a book about habits, yet here we are. I am hype about a book.... about habits. Why??? Why has this drama-loving, big picture adoring, enthusiastic creature shifted keys to start singing song of habits? Because it's unflattering. And that's EXACTLY why we need to self-examine.

Here's the thing:
Every person reading this review (also, hi!) has bad habits.
Every person reading this review has good ones.
And - I would wager - every person reading this review has unfinished business.

There's some dream, change, or new echelon of self-actualization you have yet to inhabit. The problem isn't your ambitions -- it's your habits. James wrote something powerful I will directly quote when writing with book in hand. The message is this: success isn't determined by the scale of your dreams. Winners and losers have the same dreams. But the winners have better habits.

There are a number of ~juicy nuggets~ that will come out of the woodwork to slap your b*tch-ass into line. I doubled back on more than one occasion. Check out his Instagram -- he's been sharing a number of nice one liners. But if you're like......... 80% of the way there, you might as well.

This book is:
- Actionable
- Pragmatic
- Grounded <-- woah!
- Science-y
- Sweet
- Readable <-- nice.

My advice:
1. If you're this deep in the reviews section, buy the book.
2. Seriously, buy the book.
3. Mentally accept that James Clear will not personally pry the donut from your grip and supervise your situps.
4. Listen to Your Audio Download
5. Learn things.
6. Implement said things.
7. Rinse repeat.
8. *Flourish*

Thanks for reading along. It's been an honor! *hat tip, bows*

Huge toolkit of actionable, practical, organized strategies to build positive habits Review by Tom
I've read a lot of books on changing behavior and building habits and James Clear's Atomic Habits is my new favorite. This book is different from others in the way it covers an enormous amount of ground in the larger area of self-improvement while seamlessly tying all these ideas back into the central theme of habits.

One of the core concepts in Atomic Habits is to focus on the small improvement. The impact a 1% improvement per day can make may appear negligible at first, but Clear makes a compelling argument that in the case of habits, thinking small produces the biggest results over time. "Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement," explains Clear.

Over the months and years, the accumulated effect of small habitual daily behaviors is staggering. Early in the book we are also warned that this compounding works both ways, so we'd better make sure we're making it work in the positive direction, not for the negative.

Atomic Habits by James Clear is highly recommended read Review by Tim
I was aware of many concepts of this book through the web site of the author jamesclear.com In fact that the place from where I came to know James first time. The article on habits where he mentions process is important than goals was my starting point. I continued reading his updates through the consistent newsletter he publishes through his site.

Once the book was announced and available it was a no brainer for me to purchase my own copy to have all the concepts in one place and to go through the ideas in succession.

This book provides supplementary material like cheat sheet and templates which are very useful for planning your own habit profile and continuous improvement.

This book is action oriented. The concepts present an action plan for trying them in your own situation and to practice the ideas directly in day to day life. This makes the book an instruction manual for nurturing good habits and killing bad habits. I was able to immediately relate to many new habits to start and many not so good habits I can stop and avoid using the identification pattern provided in the book.

The principle presented in the book about understanding who to become, that is finding out what identity to achieve instead of just starting or stopping a habit is very helpful.

One important aspect of this book is the to the point summary provided after every chapter. Once you have read the book this summary helps recall all the concepts in short time and becomes a concise model to revise the concepts.

The book is engaging and is suitable for reading cover to cover as it provides many stories and references. As the concept of process than goals was already known to me through the Learning How to Learn MOOC at Coursera, I was glad to find the same concept mentioned in this book and was able to relate quickly with the principles.

The book also becomes a workbook and reference material once you have gone through it. The chapters are divided into sections which can be referred for particular situation in hand.

I will recommend this book for anyone who is eager to understand why habits are formed and how to nurture good habits and avoid bad ones.

FANTASTIC BOOK! Just a little less of a commercial Review by Tanya
absolutely loved the book. he is well read in the field and makes it very easy to implement all that you have read previously in other books. well paced and motivating. My ONLY complaint is it feels like a TV show at times with the every ten minute plug for his website.

Love this Book Review by Brian
Such and a clear and concise set of strategies to make your life better. Clear gives easy to follow example and for me, relevant scenarios to help apply the strategies. I ended up buying the Audio book here and the online resources are very helpful and laid out well. If you’re looking to make some small changes that lead to much bigger ones, give it a listen/read. It was quick, easy and relevant.

Worth every word! Amazing!!! Review by alex
I loved this book. I have read a lot of "self help" books and they seem to want to sell you a bigger and better product. they give you a sample of a VERY expensive service and the book is meant to sell you their product. James Clear gives you URLs, additional resources and simply wants to help. These concepts are "simple" and can change your life if you apply them. It's all backed by science and examples of how to apply the concepts. This book has helped me progress through medical school and create habits that have changed my life! Simply put, AMAZING!!

Possibly the best book I read in 2021 Review by Daniel
I like the fact that author read his book. He read clearly and is easy to follow. I devoured this book in two days and will now focus on implementing he’s strategies. I love the included templates. I will most definitely listen this again during this week while I’m working on building my habit system.

Insightful, practical, fresh, and potentially transformative Review by David
I absolutely LOVE reading this! James Clear has a phenomenal understanding of human behavior, and specifically how our habits define our identities. For me personally, he has offered a completely new way for me to understand WHY I continue my bad habits when in my head, I know they're bad, and why I find it so difficult to start good habits. Furthermore, he offers very specific strategies for how to change those habits so I can make myself into the person I know I should be. It's not about "will power," "motivation," "perseverance," or any of those traits we so often attribute to people who kick bad habits and start good ones. Instead, it's all about behaving in a way most consistent with the person we wish to be.

Though I can definitely see how boring this book can seem, once you get into it you’ll learn that you have to get pass the boredom to really get something out of it. Highly recommend for anyone struggling with financial difficulties, addiction, or any person that feels the need to do better.

Good Actionable Content Review by Kevin
This was a decent follow up to Charles Duhigg's The Power of Habit but not as engaging to me.

What Clear lacks, by comparison, in the narrative space he makes up for with an actionable approach.

This is a decent investment for the time required. I would suggest reading Duhigg first.
